For seafood lovers and wine enthusiasts alike, our French Tinned Sardine Lunch & Wine Pairing was a truly one-of-a-kind experience. We explored the world of vintage sardines from the French brand, La Perle des Dieux, pairing their vintage sardines with carefully selected wines.
The Legacy of La Perle des Dieux
Since 1887, La Perle des Dieux has been perfecting the art of sardine preservation in the fishing port of Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie. Known for their dedication to quality, they produce vintage sardines that are designed to mature gracefully in olive oil—developing a richer, smoother texture over time, much like fine wine. Our tasting featured four vintages from 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022.
Tasting the Difference
We began with a guided tasting, comparing the four vintages to identify the unique characteristics of each year. After the tasting, incorporated it into a specially curated dish. Below are the recipes from our event so you can recreate the experience at home!
Drink: Picasso 'Élegance' Chardonnay 2023
Drink: Strata 'Light Red' Pinot Shiraz 2021
Dish 3: Sardine Tapas
Drink: Baron d'Arignac Charmat Brut Blanc NV
Dish 4: Tarte aux Sardines
Drink: La Vicomté 'Cuvée Authentique' Cinsault Rosé 2023
